FOLLOWING its victory in the 2002 InfoDev awards sponsored by the World Bank,
local e-marketplace B2Bpricenow.com (www.b2bpricenow.com) recently received new
nominations from four international awards bodies.
Among these
nominations are from the Stockholm Challenge, the Tech Museum Awards, the Global
Junior Challenge, and the 100 Most Outstanding Social Entrepreneurs by the
Schwab Foundation.
These awards recognize the scope of social and
entrepreneurial work being done by private individuals using ICT
tools.
Currently, only B2Bpricenow.com and its managing director, Edgardo
Herbosa, are the only Filipino nominees in these awards.
According to
Herbosa, the company attributes the latest nominations to the fact that it
bagged the InfoDev awards by World Bank in 2002, taking home over 100,000 US
dollars in cash prize.
"Perhaps the World Bank gave these award bodies a
list of its nominees and winners and luckily, we’re part of that," Herbosa
said.
B2Bpricenow.com is mainly focused as an online marketplace for the
agricultural industry in the Philippines. It is among the few online companies
that enable small industries to have a venue for interaction and
trading.
The Stockholm Challenge is sponsored by the city of Stockholm in
Sweden. The awards proper is set on May 10 to 13.
The Tech Museum Awards
is sponsored by various industrial firms in the US and is considered as the
Nobel Prize for technology. The awarding ceremony is on November 10 and would
award 50,000 dollars for each winner.
The Global Junior Challenge is
organized by Digital Youth Consortium and would announce winners on November 19.
The winner gets to receive 30,000 Euros or 35,700 dollars.
Meanwhile, the
Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship sponsors the 100 Most Outstanding
Social Entrepreneurs. It would conduct its award ceremony in October during the
Social Entrepreneurship Summit in Brazil.
